• OPM Proposed Rule on Suitability of Federal Employees, Federal Register, June 23. "The proposed changes would require the application of reciprocity of investigations in many cases where a person is appointed or converted to a covered position, or transfers to a covered position, after serving in another covered position."
• Record cost for security classifications, United Press International, June 21. "The U.S. Information Security Oversight Office recorded an all-time-high record in the cost of implementing the national security classification system."
• Cheney gets last laugh by Kevin Bogardus and Rebecca Brown, The Hill, June 20. "Vice President Dick Cheney has won his battle to withhold records from the public despite efforts by Congress and other critics who say they should be open to scrutiny."
• State Department Can't Take the Heat?, Nukes and Spooks, June 16. "Aftergood, it seems, has been kicked off the distribution list for the State Department history publication known as the Foreign Relations of the United States. His infraction? He's pointed out what he says are errors in several recent volumes."
• Can the Enemy Build a Super-Soldier? by Mark Thompson, Time, June 15. "Imagine bad guys able to fight without sleep. Or enemy soldiers with hardware implanted in their brains that makes them better able to target U.S. troops than U.S. troops are able to target them."
• DHS Requests Comments on the National Infrastructure Protection Plan, Federal Register, June 6. "This notice informs the public that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is currently reviewing the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) and, as part of a comprehensive national review process, solicits public comment on issues or language in the NIPP that need to be updated in this triennial review cycle.
• ODNI Refuses Disclosure of FY2006 Intelligence Budget, June 4. "The size of the National Intelligence Program for Fiscal Year 2006 is properly classified under Executive Order 12958."
• Obama and Coburn Introduce Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008, news release, June 3. "This new legislation would allow USASpending.gov visitors to view copies of Federal contracts, as well as information about competitive bidding, earmarks, government lease agreements, work quality, Federal audit disputes, any violations or criminal activities, Federal tax compliance, and government reports."
