NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FY2020 Conference report to Accompany S. 1790 [...] Report on reducing the backlog in legally required historical declassification obligations of the Department of Defense (sec. 1759) The House amendment contained a provision (sec. 1098) that would require that not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency each shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees, a report detailing progress made by the Secretary or the Director, as the case may be, toward reducing the backlog in legally required historical declassification obligations. The Senate bill contained no similar provision. The Senate recedes with an amendment that would scope the requirement such that only the Secretary of Defense need submit a report, and that the Secretary's report would be submitted only to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
