Dear Mr. Chairman:

Pursuant to Section 1041(d) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2000, I am providing the report on the Department of Defense efforts relating to the declassification of classified records. Under the provisions of Executive Order 12958, "Classified National Security Information" and its amendment Executive Order 13142, the date for automatic declassification of records is extended to October 17, 2001, with additional time for intelligence and multi-agency records. The Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, National Imagery & Mapping Agency and National Security Agency requested, and were granted until April 17, 2003 to complete automatic declassification reviews.

As requested, the current status of declassification is as follows:
